Heart Month 2019 is just about in the books! Thank you to everyone for all the activity encouraging people to learn more about women and heart disease and raising the visibility of WomenHeart.
2019 is an important year for WomenHeart – it is the 20th anniversary. Today, like 20 years ago, the mission of the organization remains the same – to support and advocate for women who have experienced cardiac events and to educate others, that 80 percent of heart disease is preventable.
We have accomplished so much in those 20 years. We have trained over 900 women at the Mayo Clinic Science and Leadership program and we can’t even begin to count the number of women we have helped through support groups, hospital visits, heart scarves, community education programs, WomenHeart@Work, health fairs, etc. In 2018 alone, we provided over 5,000 hours of support and touched over 100,000 lives. We have much to celebrate!
Our annual Wenger Awards Dinner, aptly named after Dr. Nanette Wenger who was among the first physicians to focus on coronary heart disease in women, is our way of honoring those who have raised awareness of women’s heart disease. Please join us Monday, May 20, 2019, for the 19th Annual Wenger Awards Dinner. We are very excited to announce this year’s confirmed awardees:
- 2019 Wenger Award for Excellence in Medical Research & Leadership : Carl Pepine, M.D.
- 2019 Wenger Award for Excellence in Media: Tara Narula, M.D.
- 2019 Wenger Award for Excellence in Medical Innovation : Annabelle Volgman, M.D.
Our Public Policy honoree to be announced shortly.
While this evening is about celebrating all we have accomplished, it is also an opportunity to grow the WomenHeart family. Please buy a ticket, invite friends and family to join you and engage business associates in the important mission of WomenHeart. Contact us to learn more about how you can support the event.
See you there.
